You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” — Rahm Emanuel, then President Barack Obama’s Chief of Staff, currently Mayor of Chicago.

Various ubiquitous terms have filled our minds with COVID-19 taking the lead among all of them. The situation does wreak fear in my mind sometimes as I ponder on the next few months in my life, how are things gonna look like? are my dreams still valid? or just a fading mist in the cold world that we are all in.

It has long been said that the future belongs to them that prepare, and part of my motivation to write this is to inspire someone else out there who would want to make a change personally and also professionally.

GROW A SKILL

There has never been a time in the 21st Century where close to 3billion people in the world have been kept indoors for this long while, out of it many have fallen into depression, domestic violence erupted and other vices that have always been in hushed tones. But one thing that can benefit you will be to nurture a skill; that one thing that you have put off, take time to build it. From planting a garden to learning how to code, this is the time, getting into specific webinars that cater to your needs can be a starting point to quench this thirst for perfection furthermore going to the good old ‘YouTube Univerity’.

TEACH

We should not see our children us burdens during this time, their minds are like sponges and they are quick to observe your every action. If you resonate with worry most likely you are raising a lot of worriers in the house, letting your anger have the better part of you, frustration and bitterness writhing in every breathe then the same will be felt in your generation. Instead of throwing caution to the wind, teach your children something that will stand with them for years to come, since they are just like clay that is being moulded and the world will just harden what you have moulded.

When the storm finally passes and we rise from the ashes, we will have stories to tell some filled with tears but others will give a tale of courage and persistence. Make a choice to grow yourself and others.
